Our History
Our Beginning
Robert High Development was founded in 1989 by Robert High to meet a growing need in the self-storage industry. Many investors wanted to own self-storage facilities but lacked the experience or resources to develop them. After years of building facilities for himself, Robert began applying that expertise to help others bring their projects to life.
The Early Days
In the beginning, Robert personally served as the superintendent, overseeing projects in the field and ensuring quality at every stage, supported by a small two-person office team. As demand increased, the company grew to manage multiple projects at once, requiring the addition of superintendents, project managers, and a dedicated design team. This period marked RHD’s expansion into a traveling operation serving clients across a broader region.
Building the Right Team
One of the company’s earliest challenges was assembling a reliable network of subcontractors and design partners capable of delivering consistent quality. Built on a foundation of long-term relationships and shared standards, the RHD team remains a cohesive unit to this day.

Today, Robert High Development is a team of more than 25 professionals building self-storage facilities throughout the southeastern United States. With over 250 completed projects, RHD offers a proven, repeatable development process supported by a highly resourceful team.
